When Hollenthon released their third album
‘Opus Magnum’ in May of 2008, I still had
my doubts about the restart of the band. But only one
and a half year later we are already treated on ‘Tyrants
and Wraiths’, so maybe that’s a sign for the
future. Main man Martin Schirenc definitely kept his promise:
the fans of Hollenthon didn’t have to wait another
seven years for a new release.
‘Tyrants and Wraiths’ is an EP with four brand-new
songs and two bonus videos of their performance on the
Graspop Metal Meeting of 2008. We already knew they were
passionate about classical music (which is not surprising
when your home base is Vienna). But this time we can also
hear some real bombastic soundtrack samples, listen to
‘Of Hollow Man’ and then you know what I mean.
Another surprise on this mini CD is provided by the thrashy
sounds that can be heard in ‘Innocence Sin’
(guitar and drum parts). Hollenthon definitely made a
very positive restart and I’m more and more curious
about a next full-length album!
